whatchu talkin bout woman?
Okay, I don't know from saddles. But I plan to get back on the blogging horse in a regular way. Just don't hold me to exactly what 'regular' means.
Wow. I can't believe it's been over two months since my last post. {I hate to admit, it's been so long, I was shocked at how different the new Blogger looks.}
Whew.
Lot's of stuff happening. I'm just going to jump right in.
I was lucky enough to score some fabulous things at an estate sale a few weeks ago.
The estate sale was run by the family. The only son and his wife. She was super friendly, and we chatted and chatted about the cool stuff that had belonged to her in-laws. The suitcase with the teal trim belonged to her husband's great grandmother. When she left her parent's house as a young woman, that's all she took with her. That suitcase with her belongings inside. Can you imagine packing everything you have inside that little case? Or, can you imagine taking a trip and using that little case? It doesn't hold very much, that's for sure. The lady told me the suitcase was filled with photos. After her husband took the photos out, he wanted to THROW IT AWAY.
AAAACK!!!
Thank goodness she caught him, and told him she thought someone might want it. It was one of the first things I picked up that day.
That sweet, pink baby scale is going in the baby's room I'm putting together at my house for my granddaughter. (Nope, she's not here yet. Another month.) That jewelry box is near mint condition with the key. It just sold in my Etsy shop. {but I have two similar cases that will be in my shop as soon as I can take photos.}
That green metal box is listed in my Etsy shop right now. It's in great condition, and a perfect size to use for so many things.
I thought it could be a cool dresser organizer for a guy.
Those chairs are sweet little children-sized folding chairs. Most of what I picked up I plan to sell either in my Etsy shop or at flea markets.
I've decided to try selling at flea markets at least once a month. I participated in my first one last weekend. It was a real learning experience. The main thing I learned was that this particular flea wasn't a good fit with the things I had to sell. I had vintage items and vintage inspired jewelry. Most of the people coming through were looking for yard-sale-type items. I didn't do very well with sales, so, I'm looking for other fleas to try out. Here are a few shots of my booth space. Sorry for the crappy photos, they are all taken with my phone and the lighting inside the building wasn't very good.
And this was probably my favorite shopper of the day.
He was so darn cute and well behaved. Not a peep out of him, and he loved every bit of attention he got.
Like I said, it was a learning experience. I did have enough sales to cover my expenses. And my few *cough* purchases. Not only did I have the wrong merchandise for the sale, it was really slow all weekend. When it's that slow, there's lots of time to shop the other vendors. At least half of them had yard-sale items. But there were enough who had vintage goodies, that I managed to pick up a few things. But I'll leave that for another post.
I've lots more to catch up on, hopefully it won't take me another two months to get it all posted.
Thanks to all of you who continue to stop by, and thanks to those of you who emailed asking about me while I was taking a break. I miss all of my sweet blog buddies. I've tried to check in on your blogs when I could, mostly on my phone, which makes it difficult to leave comments, but hopefully, now that I'm back in the saddle *grin* I'll make it around to your place soon.

10 notes from friends:
Happy to see your finds. Your post reminding me of a friend who came to America as a seventeen year old, alone, from Iceland, with one suitcase. Seeking new . . .
Hi Maureen!
Okay, I wrote back to you, thinking you are expecting a baby...I wondered about that, because I didn't recall you writing about being pregnant...now I see what you meant with the word grand baby....I though that was slang or something...see, english isn't my first language... anyhoo, glad you're back, lovely items to sell, good luck with the fairs.
Maureen x
happy to see you back! i am in love with that suitcase and the story behind it. so jealous of all your flea market finds. items like that are so freakin' expensive here in nyc :)
Welcome back! You got some great stuff~I love that little white and teal suitcase! I've been looking for some child size folding chairs to go with a folding table I have for Claire. I wish I lived closer, I'd buy yours!
So good to have you back to blogging!
You aren't the only one who has taken a long hiatus....I am still trying to figure out how five months went by! I'm also trying to figure out how I used to find time to do daily posts!
How I would love to have an antique shop but I know how much time it takes...my sister used to have a great one but finding things for it was fun but time consuming...and we both always wanted to keep what she found:) I wish she were still here to talk into starting one with me again!:) She would have loved everything that you have for sale!
Love that baby scale!
So glad you're back! Sounds like you've been having fun, though. I would have snatched that suitcase up myself - even though I have two similar ones. I need to pick your brain about your etsy shop. I have some things I need to sell and hadn't thought of posting them on etsy. I wish you lived close enough that I could visit your flea booth! On second thought, it's probably a good thing I don't live close!! lol
Hi Maureen,
WOW! Looks like you've been super busy. Did you ever figure out how to take the keys off the old typewriter? Mine still sits and waits.
Photography is gorgeous as always.
Bet you can't wait for that little sweet-pea to arrive!
Jill
So glad you are back Maureen!
You sure found some wonderful goodies.
Happy Sunday to you!
Have you watched that show called something like "Baggage Wars"? My hubby was watching it the other night when I walked in the room and then it got me hooked til the end of the show. Airports apparently have auctions for unclaimed baggage (I think the show we were watching was at the Indianapolis airport.) Anyway, there were hundreds of bags of luggage, some of them vintage. People travel to these auctions from all over, but they can't open the luggage until they've won the bid. (I don't know how true these shows are). Anyway, you'd probably love it! You should check into whether the St. Louis airport does that! Glad to see you're back!
