Green Shag Market, isn't that a fun name for a vintage store? You can visit their website
here. They hosted a parking-lot sale last Saturday, and I was lucky enough to get a space. The weather was great, the turnout was great, especially considering it was the first time for the outdoor market. The above photo was taken before the market opened.
There was a lot of cool mid-century stuff there, but also a mix of simply
old crap vintage treasures. Among the dealers and shoppers were some local bloggers. You can see more photos from the day on
Mr Modtomic's blog. He had a fabulous collection of mid-century furniture there.
Another local blogger was there, Nick from
Mid-Century Midwest. He bought the set of star burst glasses I had that you can see in the photo above. Although I didn't know that was him at the time.
That's my booth, the first one on the right with the quilt hanging on the fence. I didn't take my big-girl camera, so all of these are taken with my phone.
Like I said, I was really happy with my sales for the day. I also learned a few things. Mainly about my booth set-up. Larger tablecloths needed, and I really think I need to either put up the walls for the ez-up or find something more decorative to hang, at least on the back wall. The fence and parking lot behind my booth was really distracting. I also need to re-think some of my pricing. That's an ongoing process I think. So many factors to consider.
I sold every camera but one. I brought one of the Brownie Hawkeyes home with me. The cameras were a big hit, I wish I had more of them. (well, I did fine a few more stashed in my basement, woot!) That typewriter found a new home also.
That's about all the photos I have from the day. Once the sales began, I was too busy to leave the booth. But you can see more photos of all the dealers on Mr. Modtomic's blog. {There is a shot of me working at setting up my booth on his blog}
The day before the sale, I took some photos inside the Green Shag Market. Again with my camera phone, I remembered to bring the big-girl camera, but once again, left the camera card at home.
You can see more photos from inside the store on their Facebook page
here.
The sale was originally planned as an annual sale, but the response was so good that there are rumors it may become a monthly sale. I hope so, it really was a good sale. Everyone there was extremely friendly and helpful. One dealer gave me a large gourmet cupcake (she manages a cupcake store in the area), another told me to go through some of his things late in the day that he was going to give to the thrift store, and take anything I wanted. As in FREE. I scored two film cameras, one is a XG7 Minolta with a 1.9 55mm lens. Sweet.
I also have some ideas for some fun mid-century mod, Mad Men inspired pendants to make for the {hopefully} next sale. I found some cute, cute, cute designs from an Etsy seller to use. As soon as the resin is dry, I'll share some photos.
